Impact of the project
Providing the client with a rich analysis and clear synthesis to base their policy for daycare centers on.
Identifying that current daycare services are above average and giving the client hope and energy to uplift them to the next level.
For a Flemish city, we conducted qualitative research in order to grasp the experiences perceived by children and adults of the daycare system within the city.
In order to be pedagogically correct, we conducted a multitude of different research methods to collect as many insights as possible. These methods ranged from conducting interviews with daycare employees, interviewing different children from different age groups, building questionnaires for parents, and conducting a diary study with parents and children.
All these methods were carefully crafted to be effective for the target audience. The questionnaire was oriented towards parents, so questions were asked regarding their experience and what they suspected the experience of their child was with the daycare system. While interviewing children, a more playful approach was set up. We built three different interview techniques according to the age group of the children. The youngest children were asked questions while playing, whereas the oldest group was actively involved in trying to map out what they liked and didn't like at the daycare.
With these qualitative insights, we helped the municipality form a more nuanced solution to focus on for their future daycare system. We found interesting experience nuances between the age groups of children, which led to more child- and age-appropriate ideation while searching for solutions.
We were able to build solutions that were beneficial for children, parents, as well as for the daycare employees. Within the limited time frame, validation sessions were organized to see if all stakeholders approved the general direction of the solution the municipality wanted to implement.
