From 2018 am I active in guiding and coaching adolescents in youth work all over Flanders, with an emphasis on the provinces of Antwerp and Flemish Brabant. This means setting up cooperative sessions where people learn from each other in an approachable and informal way. To this end, I created my own didactic material and tested it against learning competencies from the Flemish government. In my view, the emphasis in learning competencies in youth work is not on the traditional teacher-pupil relationship, but rather peer to peer learning. I therefore take on a coaching role in which I try to create as safe a setting as possible for each student who takes a course with me. From this setting, the trainees experience an equal sense of respect towards each other. As a result, they also effectively learn from each other and motivate each other harder to continue.
